Being an Officer is not about being seen in the public eye or about gaining extra recognition but instead about serving the 3,900+ members of our organization. Being an Officer requires a great deal of work, effort, and sacrifices. In return, officers will be greatly rewarded by discovering an experience unmatched by any other. Registration Instructions Qualifying Presentations Events The top two (2) entries in each qualifying event from each District will advance to the State Leadership Conference. Any unfilled spots and at minimum three spots will be ‘wild card’ spots for students to advance to the state conference. For more information on the wild card process, please review the wild card section in the DLC guide. Members will follow the National FBLA Guidelines and Preliminary Rating Sheets. The member’s prejudged materials will be reviewed prior to and/or during their performance event. Events that start with ‘Introduction to...’ are open only to 9th and 10th grade student members. This allows student members who are interested in competing at the district level to enter into a competitive event but not be required to attend the actual event on the day-of if their schedule does not allow. Students competing in only objective tests are still able to attend the conference (though not required) and take advantage of the networking opportunities, educational content, and participate in workshops during the in-person conference. No pre-registration or selection required. Adviser Professional Development Meetings Two separate adviser meetings are dedicated to providing professional development to Iowa FBLA’s advisers. Both meetings will be held during the workshop times, one on Sunday and one on Monday. Sunday Evening Optional Activities Iowa FBLA has curated a list of optional activities that chapters can register for or choose to participate in including a Networking & Game Zone at the hotel. Business Casual Attire for Conference Iowa FBLA has updated the conference dress code to include an approved casual attire. Attendees can purchase an optional FBLA polo or wear professional dress. Know Before You Go Planning Document Sample Conference Chapter Budget As you prepare for SFLC, here are some important reminders: Dress Code Make sure your students are prepared and know the conference dress code. If you purchased an FBLA polo, you’ll receive these at registration. Conference attendees are required to adhere to and follow one of the two dress codes outlined below. Business Casual Attire Clothing should be appropriate for a professional conference. Approved FBLA branded polo Dress pants, skirt, (or) khakis/chino-style pants Dress shoes (or) dress boots -or- Business Professional Attire Attendees should follow the National FBLA Dress Code. The dress code can be found at www.fbla.org/dresscode Business Suit Section Blazer Section Dress Section Other Professional Section Conference Meals During the conference, attendees are provided two meals (Sunday dinner and Monday breakfast) as part of conference registration. All dietary restrictions have been accommodated and the attendee should see a server when entering the meal area. Adviser Assurance and Consent Forms Advisers should upload to Blue Panda one form, the Adviser Assurance form (Appendix A). This form states that you’ve collected all student consent forms (Appendix B) and will personally maintain a copy during the event. To locate the forms, click "Download Conference Guide", and print pages 11-15. To upload, log in to Blue Panda, and click on "Additional Items Due" in orange on the conference screen. See the attached map for more information. Arrival & Registration Registration opens at 1 PM on Sunday, October 26th in the Windows on 7th room located on the first floor of the hotel. Parking Overnight Self-Parking is available in Des Moines Parking Ramps. More information can be found on City of Des Moines or Park Downtown Des Moines’ website. The closest parking garage via Skywalk is located at 9th and Grand. City garage parking charges Mon-Sat $1.00/hr, $10 daily max. Conference Schedule Coming Soon! Download the Sched app and search for ‘State Fall Leadership Conference’. All attendees will receive an email directly from Sched to view the conference schedule. Hotel Check-In & Storage Check-in starts at 4 pm and every attempt has been made to room chapters on the same floor. Please note, all rooms have been pre-assigned and modifying room types or locations may not be available. Make sure you have a credit card ready when checking in to the hotel. It will need to be provided for incidentals for the rooms. Bag and luggage storage will be available in the Windows on 7th room for chapters needing space prior to check-in. Optional Add-on Items Chapters that purchased the Dave & Busters tickets, conference t-shirts, and/or FBLA polos will receive these items at registration. About FBLA Middle School Opportunity FBLA Middle School provides an opportunity for members to explore a range of career skills as well as project-based learning experiences tied to a Business Education Program. In FBLA Middle School, members will identify problems and solutions to begin developing business skills. Skills FBLA is a 501(c)3 organization for students interested in business, business related career, and leadership development.
