- I Believe Scholarship | Iowa FBLA
I Believe Scholarship In honor of the members and advisers we have lost since the creation of Iowa FBLA in 1947, the I Believe Scholarship is a group memorial scholarship for first-generation college students. Just as our mission lives on forever, so will the memory of these members, advisers, and alumni. First-generation scholarships are a form of financial aid that focuses on students who are either the first in their family to go to college or whose parents don’t have college degrees. Scholarship Details Value $250 Application Process Applications are due by February 1 Submissions via an online form Submit an Application Eligibility Requirements The student must be a current member of a local chapter of the Iowa Chapter of FBLA. Applicant must be taking/or have taken at least three business or computer science courses. In career-technical schools/centers, the equivalent of three hours of business instruction would be accepted. Applicant must be enrolled or planning to enroll as a business, business education, or computer science major at an Iowa community college, public or private college, or university. A complete transcript with a cumulative grade point average of high school or college/university credits should be sent. Class standing/rank must be included for high school applicants. Applicant Must Submit the Following: Application Form (both pages completed) Letter of Application addressed to Scholarship Committee. The letter should briefly explain career goals and biographical (background) information. Letter of Recommendation from nominating teacher Transcript Judging and Award A scholarship committee composed of business educators will determine the scholarship recipients. The scholarship committee may conduct interviews with the finalists to make the final determinations. Formal notification of the winner will be made at the FBLA State Leadership Conference or by written notice. The actual award will be made after the applicant has enrolled in the school of their choice and successfully completed their first semester. A check in the amount of the scholarship will be sent directly to the recipient's school for use toward educational expenses. Should one of the first-named recipients of the scholarship fail to enroll and attend school the following fall school term, the applicant who was judged as an alternate will receive the award if they have enrolled in a business program at an Iowa community college, public or private college, or university.
